A provincial government official said at least 25 people were killed and 23 wounded in a suicide bombing inside a Shia mosque in eastern Afghanistan on August 3.

The Center of Mosque Studies - The attacker blew himself up inside the mosque in the eastern Paktia Province’s capital of Gardez, said Abdullah Asrat, spokesman for the Provincial Governor, AP reported.

The bomber slipped undetected through a side door, said Mr. Asrat. The mosque was packed with worshippers attending Friday prayers.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack but the Daesh terrorist group’ affiliate in Afghanistan has targeted Shia worshippers in the past.

The affiliate has also warned Afghanistan’s minority Shias that their houses of worship would be targeted.
