Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is on an official visit to Turkey, attended the Friday prayers in Ankara yesterday.

He accompanied Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Binali Yildrim, and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the Friday prayers.

Following the sermons and prayers, Erdogan in an address noted that the Iranian top diplomat was attending the religious event, which was hailed by the worshippers who chanted Allahu Akbar to welcome Zarif.

Earlier, the Iranian foreign minister held talks with Erdogan, Yildrim, and Cavusoglu to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues.

It was the first visit to the neighboring country by a senior Iranian official since the July 15 attempted coup in Turkey.

Iran was among the very first countries that condemned the coup and voiced support for the Turkish people’s democracy.
