A plan for establishing Russia’s national Quran academy was introduced in a gathering of the country’s Muslim scholars.

According to the website of Russia’s Muftiat Council, it was introduced by deputy head of the council Sheikh Roshan Abbaso at the Grand Mosque of Moscow.

The plan aims to promote the teachings of the Quran using new technologies and with support from the Muftiat Council.

Ahmed Azimov, one of the scholars who have worked out the plan, said the Quran academy will provide everyone the opportunity to learn the Quran.

He noted that experts from other countries have also cooperated in developing the plan.

It will be unveiled on September 26 at an international Quranic studies conference.

Islam is the second most widely professed religion in Russia.

Muslim minorities make up around 15 percent of the country’s total population of around 144 million.
