The Center of Mosque Studies - Minister of State for Federal Education Balighur Rehman has contacted Qari Muhammad Hanif Jalandhari of the Ittehad-i-Tanzeemat-i-Madaris-i-Deenia, an umbrella organisation of five main bodies representing the nationwide seminaries of different schools of thought, shared with him the proposal to teach schoolchildren the Quran recitation (nazra) and translation, and sought suggestions.
Qari Hanif assured the minister of his organisation’s complete support and cooperation for the proposal’s early execution and said the provinces should cooperate with the centre in introducing Quranic education in government schools.
Of late, the federal education and professional training ministry submitted the proposed syllabi for government schools to the Council of Islamic Ideology for consideration.
Under the proposed syllabi, the Quranic education will be a compulsory subject from grade 1 to grade 12.
The students will learn how to recite the Holy Quran in the first five years of schools and Urdu translation of the Holy Quran in the next six years.
