Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has slammed a recent terror attack at a Shia mosque, which claimed the lives of dozens of people in Kuwait.

The Iranian president censured the attack on the Imam Sadeq mosque during a letter of condolence to  Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah on Saturday, IRNA reported.

On Friday, at least 27 people were killed and over 220 more injured as an explosion rocked the mosque in Kuwait City’s busy al-Sawabir district.

According to reports, a Saudi national is being held responsible for the attack and several suspects have been detained by police for questioning over the bombing which was claimed by the Takfiri ISIL terror group.

Rouhani voiced condolences to the emir, government, and people of Kuwait, adding that through the teachings of Islam as well as public participation, increased efforts, and cooperation, terrorism and violence could be eradicated from the world for security and peace to be spread through the region.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said earlier in the day that three Iranians were killed and several injured in the terrorist attack on the Kuwaiti mosque.

Kuwait declared Saturday a national day of mourning and held a mass funeral for the victims of the attack.  The Takfiri group’s goals from such actions in a place to worship God and during the holy month of Ramadan is to defame Islam and to create division among Muslims, President Rouhani noted.
